NorCAL BOYS: Piedmont Edges Miramonte in Thriller, 11-10

March 10th, 2010

Senior middie Robby Inch registered a game-high eight points on four goals and four assists to lead Piedmont to an 11-10 victory over Miramonte in a CIF-North Coast Section game Tuesday night.

Senior attackman Matt Dobbs added seven points on five goals and two assists, and he scored the go-ahead goal in the fourth quarter, to help the Highlanders (2-0) win their second straight one-goal squeaker under new head coach Jerem Stothers.

Sophomore middie Michael Hernandez finished with a goal and an assist, and junior attackman Jack Walters scored once for Piedmont, which opened the season with an 11-10 victory over Acalanes.

Defensively, senior goalie Connor Sweeney saved 15 shots.

Miramonte (0-3) has lost back-to-back, one-goal games.

On Tuesday, the Matadors led 7-3 at halftime before Piedmont stormed back in the third quarter. The game was tied, 8-8, going into the final 12 minutes, and Dobbs scored the go-ahead goal to give the Highlanders an 11-10 lead with 4:48 to play.

Piedmont then held on from there.

“It was up and down, but from the Acalanes game we knew we could come back at halftime,” Stothers said. “We challenge them to pick up the intensity, and they rose to the challenge.”
