Garnet Valley rising senior long-stick middie Alex Warden has made a verbal commitment to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.

Warden was a first-team All-Central League pick this year for a Jaguars team that went 17-6 and placed third in the league and third in the District 1 tournament. Warden, who plays for the Duke’s Lacrosse Club, also played last weekend in the Under Armour Underclassmen Games and made the Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association Showcase last month. 

Warden’s father, Bill, recently retired after serving 21 years in the Air Force. But originally, Alex Warden was looking at the Naval Academy.

“Navy wasn’t working out,” said Warden, who will spend one year at the Air Force Prep School. “I decided to check out the Air Force, and I loved the coaches and the campus. 

“The facilities are amazing.”

Warden, who also plays close defense, is one of three Philly defenseman to commit to Air Force in the past half year. Earlier in the spring Strath Haven senior Erik Lenke committed to Air Force, and recently Germantown Academy rising senior Ryan Crane committed.
