Grand Canyon’s East Coast road trip got off to a tough start Monday afternoon.

Middie Kory Lutes registered a game-high five points on three goals and two assists to lead Pfeiffer to a 17-2 victory over the Lopes in an NCAA Division II game in Misenheimer, N.C.

Attackman Ben Nielsen added four points on three goals and one assist, and Chad Olsen, Justin Rose, Derrick Ensor and Nolan Kronbergs all scored twice to help Pfeiffer (1-3) snap a three-game losing streak and pick up its first win of the year.

In defeat, Billy Lloyd and Konner Klein each scored once for Grand Canyon, which fell to 1-3.

Goalie Andrew Hunter saved 19 shots for the Lopes.

Pfeiffer dominated the game in every statistical category. Pfeiffer outshot Grand Canyon, 50-10, had a 41-28 edge in ground balls and had a 16-7 advantage in face-offs. Pfeiffer went 20-of-20 on clear attempts, while Grand Canyon only went 6-of-20 on clears.

Pfeiffer led 4-0 at the end of the first quarter, 6-1 at halftime and 13-2 at the end of the third quarter.

Grand Canyon will next face Lees McRae this weekend.
