NEB BOYS: Peter Stoll Leads Creighton Prep Past Millard North
March 27th, 2009
With 13 seniors away on a school retreat, the unbeaten Creighton Prep boys lacrosse team had to rely on its underclassmen Thursday.
And they delivered.
Sophomore middie Peter Stoll scored a game-high six goals and added an assist to lead the Junior Jays to their second straight come-from-behind win, 12-11 over Millard North, in a Nebraska High School Lacrosse Association game.
Creighton Prep trailed by as many as five goals before storming back in the second half. Over the weekend, the Junior Jays trailed Millard West by four goals in the second half before coming back to win by one.
Senior attackman Stewart Whealon added four points on three goals and one assist, junior middie Billy Dineen added three points on two goals and an assist and senior attackman Brennen Killen had a goal to round out the scoring for Creighton Prep (6-0), which has won 13 straight dating back to last season.
Millard North fell to 1-2.
Millard North led 3-1 at the end of the first quarter, 8-3 at halftime and 10-7 going into the fourth quarter before Creighton Prep rallied in the final 12 minutes.
With the game tied, 11-11, the Junior Jays scored the go-ahead goal with 2:07 remaining in regulation.
“The second string and rookie defensemen really stepped up,” Creighton Prep head coach Steve Haney said. “They started playing a little more relaxed, because they had faith they can do it. It was the best game I’ve seen several of these kids play.”
