MO BOYS: MSLA DII Semis: Pembroke Hill Edges Ladue, 12-11

May 21st, 2009

Senior attackman Will Bolen registered a game-high 10 points on eight goals and two assists to lead top-seeded Pembroke Hill to a come-from-behind, 12-11 victory over fifth-seeded Ladue in a Missouri Scholastic Lacrosse Association Division II semifinal Wednesday afternoon in Kansas City.

Junior attackman Jacob Sinclair added three goals, and junior middie Blake Pierce scored once, as the Raiders (16-2) came back from a five-goal deficit to win their eighth straight and advance to the Division II state championship game.

Pembroke Hill will next face the winner of Thursday’s Eureka-Fort Zumwalt semifinal. The MSLA Division II state championship game will be played Saturday, May 23, at the Anheuser Busch Soccer Park in Fenton, Mo., at 11 a.m, CDT.

“We should match-up well with either Eureka or Fort Zumwalt,” said Pembroke Hill head coach David Colbert, whose team has won its first two playoff games by a combined two goals.

In a losing effort Wednesday, junior middie Geoff Pellett scored a team-high four goals for Ladue, which finished the season 11-6.

Ladue led 4-1 at the end of the first quarter, an advantage it increased to as much as 7-2 in the second. The Rams were up 8-4 at halftime, 8-7 at the end of the third quarter and 11-10 midway through the fourth.

But Sinclair scored the equalizer with 5:10 to play in regulation, and Bolen fired home his eighth of the day to put Pembroke Hill ahead to stay with 3:26 remaining.

“He’s a senior, and he’s not going to lose,” Colbert said of Bolen. “They lost a couple key d-men, and we were able to exploit them.”

If Ladue hadn't lost its two best poles they would have smoked Pembroke, but those are the breaks
