NorCAL BOYS: Junior Patrick Worstell Commits to Syracuse

August 29th, 2010

San Ramon Valley junior middie Patrick Worstell has committed to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at Syracuse University.

Worstell, the son of San Ramon Valley head coach and California Gold organizer Peter Worstell, said he also considered Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and Notre Dame before settling on the upstate New York-based school that has won an NCAA-record 11 Division I national titles.

“I thought the coaches were awesome, and the history of winning they have at the program is great,” Patrick Worstell said. “The academic programs they have up there were the ones I was most interested in.”

Worstell is a 6-foot-1, 185-pound force in the midfield. In the last WSL Elite 25 individual player rankings, Worstell was listed as the No. 15 sophomore in the West.

“Obviously, it’s going to be a lot of work,” Worstell said of taking his game to Syracuse. “I’m going to have to raise my game in the next couple years. It’s going to be very exciting by the time I get there, to see all the rest of the players and how the team works together.”
