March 13th, 2010

Senior middie JoJo Milosevic registered a game-high nine points on four goals and five assists to lead No. 24 Palo Verde to a 16-10 victory over Houston Episcopal in the final high school game at the ‘Beating Cancer With a Stick Lacrosse Classic’ Saturday morning at the Kinkaid School in Houston.

Senior attackman Andrew Turner and junior attackman Jimmy Bivans each added six points on two goals and four assists to help the Panthers (2-0) sweep their two-game road trip to Houston. Palo Verde opened the season with an 11-8 victory over Kinkaid on Friday.

Vermont-bound senior attackman Mike Quinn and senior middie James White each scored three goals, sophomore middie Austin Collins had a goal and an assist and junior middie Jordan Grant scored once to round out the offense for Palo Verde, which trailed by three goals in the second quarter before coming alive.

Defensively, senior goalie Connor DeVane saved 15 shots.

Houston Episcopal (6-6) lost its fourth straight.

Houston Episcopal got off to a fast start, taking a 6-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. But Palo Verde quickly recovered, and the game was tied, 7-7, at halftime.

"After we woke up after the first quarter, I thought we dominated,” Palo Verde head coach Gary Campo said. “We got caught with our pants down early with the early start. Once we realized we were in a game, we got out on our break and played well.”

Palo Verde led 12-9 at the end of the third quarter, and the Panthers picked up steam in the fourth quarter.

“We were proud of our effort, but we ran out of gas when it mattered the most,” Houston Episcopal assistant coach Connor Cook said.
