Senior middie Forrest Lambert added a goal and an assist, and senior middie Cosmo Peters and senior attackman Youseff Benchouf each scored once to round out the offense for Overland.
Defensively, junior goalie Joe Troung saved 10 shots.
Cheyenne Mountain (0-2) lost its second straight to start the season.
Overland led 2-1 at the end of the first quarter, 4-2 at halftime and 6-4 at the end of the third quarter. After Cheyenne Mountain closed to within a goal, Peters answered with 4:58 remaining to put the Trailblazers up 7-5.
Cheyenne Mountain pulled within one again with 4:16 remaining, but Troung made two saves down the stretch to preserve the slim lead.
“This is a huge win coming off our loss yesterday,” Overland head coach Ben McDermott said. “It was good to see our top scorer step up and control the game with his face-offs.”
