WASH BOYS: Overlake Comes Back to Upset Northshore, 14-10

March 17th, 2010

Senior middie Sky Tweedie-Yates registered a game-high 10 points on five goals and five assists to lead Overlake to a 14-10 upset victory over Northshore in a Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association Division I game Tuesday.

Senior attackman Devon Schmidt added five points on four goals and one assist, senior middie Scout Tweedie-Yates finished with four points on two goals and two assists and freshman attackman Barrett Jenness scored three goals to help the defending Division II champion Owls (2-0) win their second straight to start the season.

Defensively, senior goalie Chap Grubb saved 14 shots for Overlake.

The Owls have now won eight straight games overall, dating back to last season.

In defeat, Foster Wisman scored five goals, and Taylor Wisman dished four assists for Northshore, which fell to 1-1.

In the opening four minutes, it looked like Northshore would win in a historic blowout. Northshore scored four unanswered goals to start the game and led 4-0 with 8:23 still remaining in the first quarter.

But Overlake quickly settled down to close within 4-3 by the end of the first quarter, and the game was tied, 5-5, at halftime. Overlake led 9-7 at the end of the third quarter, and by the time Sky Tweedie-Yates scored his fifth goal and registered his 10th point with 1:44 remaining, the Owls were ahead, 14-9.

“We showed absolute poise and resilience, given that two senior leaders were injured going into this game,” Overlake head coach Henry Valentine said. “I’m also ecstatic about the way we gathered ourselves after being down 4-0. That didn’t happen too much last year in DII.”
