ORE GIRLS: OGLA Semifinals: Oregon City Downs Lakeridge

May 19th, 2009

Senior attack Maddie Garcia registered a team-high six points on five goals and one assist to lead No. 13 Oregon City to an 18-13 victory over Lakeridge in an Oregon Girls Lacrosse Association state semifinal Monday at Tualatin Hills Park.

Senior middie Natalie Harrington added five goals, and senior middie Kaitlyn Harper had five points on four goals and one assist to help the Pioneers (18-1) advance to the state championship game for the second time in the last three years.

Oregon City will be going for its first state title in school history Thursday, May 21, at 7 p.m., at Tualatin Hills Park. The Pioneers will face the winner of Monday’s second semifinal between Lincoln and Lake Oswego.

“I think Thursday, if our offense stays balanced like today, it’ll be really hard to shut us down because we have a lot of scoring threats,” Oregon City head coach Dara Kramer said. “Lincoln and Lake Oswego both have a really organized offense, so our defense has to be on its game and play as a team. And they both have strong goalies, so we need to take smart shots.”

On Monday, senior attack Kelsey Sether added three points on two goals and an assist, sophomore attack Tessa Keuler finished with a goal and an assist and senior middie Brianne Paisley had a goal for Oregon City.

In defeat, Allie DeBruhl scored a game-high 10 goals for Lakeridge, which finished the season 15-4.

Oregon City rolled to a 14-5 halftime lead before Lakeridge made a game of it in the second half. Behind DeBruhl, who was pretty much unstoppable, even when double-teamed, the Pacers scored five unanswered goals to start the second half and closed within 14-10.

However, Oregon City maintained at least a four-goal edge from there to score its third win over Lakeridge this season.

“I think that our offense spread it out really well,” Kramer said. “We had a lot of different girls scoring. I was really proud that we had a balance offensively and played as a team.”
