AS: OC Kings Down NorCal Braves for 2nd Straight Win, 7-4

July 16th, 2010

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- The Orange County Kings used a quick start and some impressive outside shooting to stay unbeaten in the Adrenaline Shootout on Friday morning.

Middie Connor Hoffman scored a game-high two goals to lead Orange County to a 7-4 victory over the NorCal Braves in an Adrenaline Group 1 first-round game at Sonoma State University.

Middie Cody West added a goal and an assist to help the Kings (2-0) win their second straight and take over sole possession of first place in the group. The top two teams in each group advance to the championship bracket.

Middies Spencer Core, Cameron Stone and Jake Douglas and attackman Chase Warner all scored once to round out the offense for Orange County.

In defeat, middies Alex Rutan, Hunter Irvin and Michael Hernandez and attackman Jerome Rigor all scored once for NorCal, which fell to 1-1.

The early-morning start seemed to have little effect on the Kings, who got off to a flying start. Orange County scored four times in the opening five minutes, with four different players putting the ball in the cage.

Core, Stone and West all fired in wicked outside shots from about 15 yards in the opening three minutes to make it 3-0, and Warner added a goal off a feed from attackman Jake Johnson to give the Kings a 4-0 lead with 20 minutes remaining in the first half.

Orange County led 5-2 at halftime, an advantage it extended to 7-2 when Hoffmann ripped home a shot from 15 yards.

“We’ve just been real psyched to come up here,” Hoffmann said. “Nobody knows about us, and we’ve kind of surprised teams. I think people have underestimated us.”
