KAN BOYS: Olathe Rolls Past Shawnee Mission East, 14-7
April 21st, 2010
Senior attackman Logan Smith registered a game-high nine points on five goals and four assists to lead Olathe to a 14-7 victory over Shawnee Mission East in a Lacrosse Association of Kansas game Tuesday afternoon.
Senior attackman Trevor Ecton added six points on three goals and three assists, and freshman attackman Hayden Frazier scored three goals to help the Hawks (8-2) win their sixth straight and stay unbeaten against Kansas competition. Olathe is 6-0 in games played against its home state.
In the cage, senior goalie Cody Leach saved 10 shots.
In a match-up between the state’s top two teams, Olathe got off to a quick start and controlled things from the first quarter. It was a stark contrast to the teams’ first meeting, a 12-9 Olathe win, when the Hawks fell behind and had to rally in the second half.
This time, Olathe rolled to a 5-1 lead by the end of the first quarter and a 9-1 halftime advantage. It was 12-4 at the end of the third quarter.
“We had great ball movement, and we won the ground-ball game,” Olathe assistant coach Cole Dimond said. “That pretty much sums it up. That, and we had high production from our attack.”
In defeat, junior attackman Pat McGannon scored a team-high four goals, and sophomore middie Spencer Green added a goal and an assist for the Lancers (3-4), who have lost two straight and four of their last five. Shawnee Mission East is 3-2 in Kansas, with both losses coming against Olathe.
“We came out flat,” Shawnee Mission East head coach Alex Houlton said. “I’m not sure why, but we came out very stagnant. We threw some opportunities away, and they did a nice job moving the ball and finding opportunities to score.”
