SoCAL BOYS: Oaks Christian Slips Past Thousand Oaks, 10-7
March 9th, 2010
Senior attackman Robbie Thompson registered a game-high seven points on six goals and one assist to lead Oaks Christian to a 10-7 victory over Thousand Oaks in a CIF-Southern Section game Monday night.
Junior attackman Kienan McCarty added a pair of goals to help the Lions (1-1) bounce back from their season-opening loss to Mission Viejo. Senior defenseman Campbell Davis and junior attackman Michael Johnson each had a goal to round out the offense for Oaks Christian.
Defensively, senior goalie Giorgio Valenzuela saved 21 shots.
Thousand Oaks (0-2), which is playing its first season of CIF lacrosse after having fielded a club team, dropped its second straight.
Oaks Christian took an early lead and maintained it throughout the game, although it wasn’t able to deliver the knock-out punch until late in the fourth quarter.
The Lions led 9-7 when Thomson scored his sixth of the night with 1:25 remaining to effectively end it.
“We didn’t shoot very well tonight, and luckily we picked it up on the ground balls,” Oaks Christian head coach Patrick Smith said. “We slowed the ball down in the fourth quarter, and it was the decisive factor.”
