ORE BOYS: OES Downs Portland Jesuit in OHSLA Opener, 8-3

March 10th, 2010

Sophomore attackman Martin Winter registered a team-high three points on two goals and one assist to lead Oregon Episcopal School to an 8-3 victory over Portland Jesuit in the Oregon High School Lacrosse Association season opener Tuesday night.

Senior middie Gino Gray and junior attackman Charly Chambers each added a pair of goals to help the defending state-champion Aardvarks (1-0) win their 21st straight game, which is the longest current winning streak in the Western United States.

Sophomore attackman Trevor Garner and senior middie Mark Mihalik each had a goal to round out the offense for OES.

Defensively, senior goalie Austin Lewis saved 13 shots, including 11 stops in the second half.

In defeat, Justin Pfeffer scored a game-high three goals for Portland Jesuit (0-1).

With its 20-day ‘Winterim’ break on the horizon, in which the team will not practice or play, OES looked sharp in its opener. The strong defensive play that was the cornerstone of last year’s championship team appeared intact, despite the loss of numerous senior standouts.

OES led 3-0 at the end of the first quarter, 7-1 at halftime and 7-2 at the end of the third quarter.

“I’m excited to start the season with a win,” OES head coach Dennis Sullivan said. “Our senior class is defining their leadership. I’ll be looking forward to getting them back in April.”

Get your stuff right,

First - It's Timo Gray not Gino Gray.

Second - Austin Lewis is a junior, not a senior.

Third - Martin Winter had 2 assists, not one.

Fourth - Justin Pfeffer had 2 goals, not three.  The third Jesuit goal was scored by Jake Bishop.

WSL did get the final score right.
