Sophomore attackman Derek Kimbrough and freshman attackman Kevin Nguyen each registered a co-game-high six points to lead Notre Dame de Namur to a 15-5 victory over St. Andrew’s in an NCAA Division II game Saturday afternoon in North Carolina.
Kimbrough and Nguyen each scored four goals and added two assists to help the Argonauts (4-3) win their second straight. NDNU finished its four-game, East Coast road trip 2-2.
Junior middie Greg Bearson added five points on four goals and one assist, senior attackman Drew Comeau finished with four points on a goal and three assists and junior middie Nick Peterson scored two goals and had an assist to round out the offense for the Argos, which used a 12-goal second half to put it away.
Defensively, freshman goalie Hunter Adams saved eight shots, and senior middie Conrad Clevlen went 13-of-15 on face-offs and picked up 13 ground balls. Clevlen has 27 ground balls in his last two games.
St. Andrew’s fell to 1-5.
NDNU outshot the Knights 43-31, the Argos had a 39-23 edge in ground balls and a 15-9 advantage on face-offs.
The Argos led 3-2 at halftime before exploding for seven goals in the third quarter. NDNU led 10-3 going into the final 15 minutes.
“We got off the bus a little slow,” NDNU head coach Stephen Dini said. “Once the guys warmed up, found their shots and realized we could play our game and keep the ball on offense, we started playing a lot better.”
