TEX BOYS: THSLL Playoffs: St. Mark's Eliminates Strake Jesuit

May 2nd, 2010

Senior middie Fred Addy and sophomore middie Will Perkins each scored a co-team-high two goals to lead No. 4 St. Mark’s to a 7-4 victory over Strake Jesuit in a Texas High School Lacrosse League Division I quarterfinal Sunday afternoon at House Park in Austin.

Senior attackman Jeff Perkins, sophomore middie Griffin Cassagne and senior middie Connor Watamull all added a goal apiece to help the Lions (16-2) win their eighth straight and advance to the state semifinals.

St. Mark’s will next face South District champion Houston Episcopal next Saturday at Highland Park High School in Dallas.

“They’re playing great lacrosse, and they’re as hot as anybody in the state,” St. Mark’s head coach Hayward Lee said. “We’ve got our hands full. We’ve got to have a great week of practice and be on our ‘A’ game.”

Strake Jesuit finished the season 17-8 and was knocked out of the playoffs by St. Mark’s for the second consecutive year.

On Sunday, Strake Jesuit led 1-0 at the end of the first quarter, St. Mark’s led 4-2 at halftime and the Lions led 5-2 at the end of the third quarter. St. Mark’s led 7-3 midway through the fourth quarter after Will Perkins scored his second goal.

“We were not at our best today offensively,” Lee said. “I’m really proud of the way our defense hung in there and found a way to win despite some adversity in our play.”
