TEX BOYS: No. 3 St. Mark's Slides Past Strake Jesuit, 11-7
March 6th, 2010
It might not have been pretty, but the No. 3 St. Mark’s lacrosse team kept on rolling Friday night.
Senior attackman Charles Branch registered a game-high five points on four goals and one assist to lead the Lions to an 11-7 victory over Strake Jesuit in a Texas High School Lacrosse League Division I game.
Sophomore middie Will Perkins and senior attackman Jeff Perkins each finished with three points on two goals and one assist to help St. Mark’s (5-0) win its fifth straight to start the season. Junior middie Gil Cassagne added a pair of goals, and senior middie Fred Addy scored once to round out the offense for the Lions.
Strake Jesuit (4-2) lost its second straight.
In a rematch of last year’s thrilling state semifinal, also won by the Lions, St. Mark’s avoided a letdown coming off Wednesday’s thrilling, come-from-behind, overtime victory over No. 1 Highland Park. The Lions led 5-2 at the end of the first quarter, 6-3 at halftime and 10-5 going into the fourth quarter.
Despite the win, however, head coach Hayward Lee did not appear too high on his team’s effort.
“Strake has an excellent team, they’re extremely athletic, and we’re fortunate to have come away with a win tonight,” Lee said. “We have a plethora of things we have to work on.”
