NEV-TEX BOYS: No. 24 Palo Verde Gets Best of Kinkaid, 11-8
March 13th, 2010
Senior middie JoJo Milosevic registered a game-high six points on three goals and three assists to lead No. 24 Palo Verde to an 11-8 victory over Kinkaid in a rare Nevada vs. Texas interstate game Friday night in Houston.
Junior attackman Jimmy Bivans scored a game-high five goals, Vermont-bound senior attackman Mike Quinn added three points on two goals and an assist and senior attackman Andrew Turner dished three assists to help the Panthers (1-0) win their season opener.
Senior middie James White had a goal and an assist to round out the offense for Palo Verde, which was playing the first of a two-game Houston road trip. Palo Verde will next face Houston Episcopal on Saturday morning.
Defensively, senior goalie Connor DeVane saved 12 shots.
In defeat, senior Stuart Grady scored a team-high three goals for Kinkaid (2-2), which had its two-game winning streak snapped.
The game was tied, 3-3, at the end of the first quarter, Palo Verde led 6-4 at halftime and the Panthers led 8-4 at the end of the third quarter.
Palo Verde pushed its lead to as many as five goals in the fourth quarter, at 9-4, before Kinkaid scored three unanswered goals to pull within 9-7. But that was as close as the Falcons would get.
“It’s a good first win,” Palo Verde head coach Gary Campo said. “It was sloppy, but we overcame a little adversity, flying in today and playing a team we knew absolutely nothing about. We played hard. I would consider it a good, solid first win.”
