IL-MO BOYS: No. 22 Christian Brothers Routs O'Fallon, 16-4
March 19th, 2010
Manhattan-bound senior middie Gerry Leonard registered a game-high six points on a goal and five assists to lead No. 22 Christian Brothers to a 16-4 victory over O’Fallon (Ill.) in a St. Louis-area cross-border game Thursday night.
Junior attackman Conner Mullen added five points on four goals and one assist, senior middie Corey Briggs scored four goals and sophomore attackman Phil McFarland had four points on two goals and two assists to help the Cadets (1-0) roll to a season-opening victory.
Junior attackman Greg Heaghney and senior middie Tim Cribbin each scored twice, and junior attackman Graham Guirl had a goal to round out the offense for Christian Brothers.
Defensively, senior goalie Jake Redlingshafer saved 16 shots.
O’Fallon (0-2) lost its second straight to start the season, with both losses having come against Missouri opponents. The Panthers will play eight teams from Missouri and nine from Illinois this season.
O’Fallon actually led 2-0 at the end of the first quarter before the Cadets finished the game on a 16-2 run over the final three quarters. Christian Brothers scored eight second-quarter goals to take an 8-3 halftime lead, and it was all Cadets from there.
“We have a lot of learning to do,” Christian Brothers head coach Eddie Condon said. “We made a lot of mistakes, substitution-wise. The game management could have been much better, from me down. Our goalie played great though.”
