TEX BOYS: THSLL Playoffs: Dallas Episcopal Downs Bowie, 9-2

May 2nd, 2010

Junior attackman Angus Klamer and senior attackman Alex Smith each scored twice to lead No. 20 Dallas Episcopal to a 9-2 victory over Bowie in a Texas High School Lacrosse League Division I first-round playoff game Saturday at House Park in Austin.

Junior middie James Collins, sophomore middie Hayden Wilson, junior middie Tyler Lee, freshman middie Barrett Anigian and freshman attackman Blake Moore all scored once to help the Eagles (12-6) win for the fifth time in their last six games and advance to the state quarterfinals.

Dallas Episcopal will next face South District champion Houston Episcopal on Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m., CDT. The teams did not meet during the regular season.

“It’s going to be a hard battle for us,” Dallas Episcopal head coach Kevin Barnicle said. “We need to take care of the ball and be smart shooters. It’s going to be interesting. It should be a great game.”

Bowie finished the season 10-9.

On Saturday, Dallas Episcopal opened up a small lead in the first half before putting it away in the second.

The Eagles led 3-1 at the end of the first quarter, 4-1 at halftime and 6-1 at the end of the third.

“We came out a little slow,” Barnicle said. “I thought Bowie came out playing extremely well and did a great job stopping our offense. We played four quarters and were able to get out with a win.”
