MEN: No. 2 Chapman Has No Trouble With No. 15 Texas, 12-5
March 16th, 2010
Sophomore attackman Andrew Clayton registered a game-high five points on three goals and two assists to lead No. 2 Chapman to a 12-5 victory over No. 15 Texas in an MCLA Division I game Monday night.
Senior middie Blake Whitcomb added four points on three goals and one assist, senior attackman Connor Martin had three points on two goals and one assist and sophomore attackman Madison Fiore scored twice to help the Panthers (8-0) win their eighth straight to start the season.
Sophomore middie Sean Marshall and freshman middie Jonas Kurronen each had a goal to round out the Chapman offense.
In defeat, five players scored once for Texas (6-3), which fell flat after its masterful effort against No. 8 Florida State on Saturday.
Chapman got off to a quick start, rolling to a 5-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Panthers led 7-1 at halftime and 9-4 going into the fourth quarter.
“I thought we played real well,” Chapman head coach Mike Wood said. “We came out of the gates real fast. We moved the ball well, and we executed on offense. Second and third quarter, we didn’t play as crisp or sharp, but we were playing with a 7-1 lead. It was definitely a good, solid win for us.”
