MEN: No. 18 Lindenwood Edges No. 17 Texas, 12-10

Senior attackman Sam Spallitta registered a team-high four points on three goals and an assist to lead No. 18 Lindenwood to a 12-10 victory over No. 17 Texas in an MCLA Division I game Sunday afternoon in St. Charles, Mo.
Junior attackman Tyler Davis added three goals, junior middie Josh Arras had three points on two goals and an assist and sophomore middie Drew Peterson finished with three points on a goal and two assists to help the Lions (2-3) snap a three-game losing streak.
Sophomore attackman Greg Cameron had a goal and an assist, and junior middie Emilios Papanastasiou and freshman middie Bud Reschke each scored critical fourth-quarter goals to round out the offense for Lindenwood.
Defensively, sophomore goalie Dan Ashlock saved 17 shots.
In a losing effort, sophomore middie Johnny McKnight scored a game-high four goals for Texas (4-2), which lost its second straight.
Texas led 9-8 at the end of the third quarter, but Lindenwood started the fourth with a three-goal run to take control. Papanastasiou scored the go-ahead goal with 7:08 remaining in regulation to put the Lions up 10-9, and Arras gave Lindenwood an 11-9 lead when he scored on a man-up advantage with 6:50 to play.
McKnight pulled the Longhorns back within a goal at 11-10 after he scored his fourth on an extra-man opportunity with 3:16 remaining, but Reschke answered 51 seconds later to restore Lindenwood’s two-goal cushion.
“I think we played as a team today,” Lindenwood head coach Troy Hood said. “I would have been proud of them if the game went either way. This was our best performance this season, just in terms of effort.”
