ORE-WASH BOYS: No. 17 Bellevue Downs Portland Jesuit
March 13th, 2010
Senior attackman Brett Mennela and Denver-bound senior middie Cole Nordstrom each scored a co-game-high three goals to lead No. 17 Bellevue to a 10-6 victory over Portland Jesuit in an Oregon vs. Washington interstate game Friday night north of the border.
Senior middie Eric Omri added three points on two goals and an assist, and senior middie Thomas Zervas and sophomore middie Drew Douglas each scored once to help the Wolverines (1-0) win their season opener.
Defensively, sophomore goalie Austin Boyd saved 11 shots for Bellevue, which led by as many as five goals in the fourth quarter.
In defeat, attackman Joey Coleman scored three goals for Portland Jesuit (0-2), which lost its second straight to start the season.
Bellevue led 2-1 at the end of the first quarter, 6-3 at halftime and 7-4 at the end of the third quarter.
The Wolverines pushed their lead to as high as 10-5 when Omri scored his second of the night with 5:53 remaining in regulation.
“Our defense played well,” Bellevue head coach John Baumann said. “Our offense needs to click a little bit more. It was a good, non-league game for us.”
