TEX GIRLS: No. 15 Houston Episcopal Rolls Past St. Andrew's

March 6th, 2010

Sophomore middie Sydney Dupre scored a game-high five goals to lead No. 15 Houston Episcopal to a 16-6 victory over St. Andrew’s Episcopal in a Texas Girls High School Lacrosse League Division I game Friday.

Junior middie Alex Perouty added four points on three goals and one assist, senior attack Abbie Jackson finished with four points on a goal and three assists and junior attack Leigh Lausen scored three goals to help the Knights (2-0) win their second straight to start the season.

Senior attack Annie Langford pitched in a pair of goals, junior middie Drew Cowan had a goal and an assist and freshman attack Katherine Ebeling scored once to round out the offense for Houston Episcopal.

Defensively, junior goalie Kitty Benson saved nine shots.

In defeat, junior attack Margaret Heck and junior middie Katherine Stegmann each scored twice for St. Andrew’s (3-1), which had its season-opening, three-game winning streak snapped.

Houston Episcopal rolled to an 8-2 halftime lead before St. Andrew’s scored back-to-back goal to start the second half and close within 8-4. But it was all Houston Episcopal from there. The Knights finished the game on an 8-2 run to post a surprisingly high margin of victory against the Central District’s top team.

“We told our girls to just come out strong from the beginning,” Houston Episcopal assistant coach Melissa Millin said. “We had heard a lot about St. Andrew’s. Their program is building. We were able to control the draws, and we focused on our offense.

“The girls responded very well and were able to put away a lot of goals when needed.”
