ORE GIRLS: OGLA Playoffs: No. 13 Oregon City Routs Sunset

May 15th, 2009

Sensational senior middie Natalie Harrington registered a game-high eight points on seven goals and one assist to lead No. 13 Oregon City to a 19-4 victory over Sunset in an Oregon Girls Lacrosse Association quarterfinal Thursday night.

Senior middie Kaitlyn Harper added five points on four goals and one assist, sophomore attack Tessa Keuler scored three goals and senior middie Brianne Paisley dished three assists to help the Pioneers (17-1) advance to the state semifinals.

Oregon City will next face Lakeridge on Monday, May 18, at 6 p.m., PDT, at Tualatin Hills Park. In the regular season, the Pioneers beat the Pacers, 13-7, on April 6 and 10-6 on April 20. Those two games were Oregon City’s closest contests against in-state competition this season.

“Lakeridge has a really tough transition defense,” Oregon City head coach Dara Kramer said. “The key to the game is we’ve got to move the ball well. We’ve got to make sure we’re on and anticipating in the midfield.”

On Thursday, senior attack Maddie Garcia scored a pair of goals, and senior attack Kelsey Sether, junior attack Stephany Starr and sophomore middie Holly Cisneros all had a goal to round out the offense for Oregon City.

In defeat, Beth Calderwood scored a team-high two goals for Sunset, which finished the season 12-6.

Oregon City rolled to a 10-2 halftime lead before cruising to the finish in the final 25 minutes.

“I think we came together really well,” Kramer said. “The first 10 minutes was slow paced, but we really picked it up. From there, we had strong transitions, and we anticipated our passes and cuts on offense really well.”
