March 14th, 2010
Junior middie Josh Peterman registered a game-high six points on three goals and three assists to lead No. 13 Foothill-Orange County to a 14-10 victory over De La Salle in a California Interscholastic Federation game Saturday night in Orange County.
Junior attackman Cameron Cole added five points on four goals and one assist, junior middie Cooper Pickell finished with two goals and two assists and junior middie Eric Adamson scored three goals to help the Knights (4-0) win their 11th straight game dating back to last season.
Senior middie Trevor Brown and junior middie Brenten Bader each scored a goal to round out the offense for Foothill, which used a six-goal fourth quarter to pull away in the end.
Defensively, senior goalie Nathan Kleponis saved 11 shots for the Knights.
In defeat, senior Sean Mullin finished with a team-high five points on four goals and one assist for De La Salle (2-2), which lost its second straight. The Northern California-based Spartans finished 0-2 on their weekend road trip to Southern California.
In a game that was tighter than the final score indicates, Foothill had to rally in the second half after trailing early. De La Salle led 4-1 at the end of the first quarter and 7-5 at halftime before the Knights fought back to even the game at 8-8 by the end of the third quarter.
The game was tied twice more in the fourth quarter at 9-9 and 10-10 before the Knights went on their decisive game-ending run.
Pederman scored the go-ahead goal with 7:44 remaining to put Foothill ahead to stay, 11-10. Cole made it 12-10 just 19 seconds later, Brown pushed the lead to 13-10 with 5:15 to play and Adamson scored to give Foothill a 14-10 lead with 2:04 remaining.
“I’m extremely proud of this group,” Foothill head coach Jon Fox said. “This was a game where we showed we could play with the better teams. We hung in there and battled and battled, and we got our shots to fall, finally.
