SoCAL BOYS: No. 13 Foothill-OC Tops J-Serra Catholic, 14-9

March 11th, 2010

Junior attackman Cameron Cole scored a game-high five goals to lead No. 13 Foothill-Orange County to a 14-9 victory over J-Serra Catholic in a CIF-Southern Section game Wednesday night.

Senior attackman Taylor DeBerry added four points on three goals and an assist, senior attackman Tucker Rowe had four points on a goal and three assists and junior middie Matt Brown scored twice to help the Knights (2-0) win their second straight to start the season.

Junior middie Eric Adamson finished with a goal and an assist, and senior middie Dylan Primrosse and junior middie Brenton Bader each scored once to round out the offense for Foothill, which has scored 31 goals in its first two games.

Defensively, senior goalie Nathan Kleponis saved 15 shots in three quarters.

“I’m happy with our performance, especially in the first quarter,” Foothill head coach Jon Fox said. “We battled even on ground balls, but when we had it we were able to find the open man and get the goals.”

In defeat, senior attackman Tony Lemos registered a team-high four points on two goals and two assists for J-Serra Catholic (1-2).

Foothill came out strong in the first quarter, racing to a 6-1 lead after 12 minutes. The Knights led 10-3 at halftime and 12-6 going into the fourth quarter, Fox said.

Despite the loss, J-Serra Catholic head coach Michael Hutnick was upbeat.

“The team played great,” he said. “I wish we had another quarter to play. Offensively, we stepped it up. Defensively, we were a little lackadaisical on the crease.”
