Senior attackman Daniel Shields registered a game-high eight points on six goals and two assists to lead No. 11 Mercer Island to a 13-12 victory over No. 14 Lincoln on Friday night in Washington.
Junior middie Jonathan Wettack added a goal and an assist, and six other Mercer Island players scored once, as the Islanders (14-4) improved to 14-0 against Western competition.
Freshman attackman Connor Bernal, sophomore attackman Matt Shields, senior middie Steven Caditz, sophomore middie Doug Mahony, senior middie Graham Horgdal and junior defenseman Conner Beckwith all had a goal to round out the scoring for Mercer Island.
In defeat, senior middie Peter Baum scored a game-high seven goals for Lincoln (13-3) and left an indelible impression on Mercer Island head coach Ian O’Hearn.
“My reaction is Peter Baum is the real deal,” O’Hearn said. “That kid is un-freaking-believable. He’s Hopkins good. Every time he touched the ball, he’d get to the goal and score.”
In a classic Oregon vs. Washington slugfest, Lincoln led 5-3 at the end of the first quarter before Mercer Island came back to take an 8-7 halftime lead.
Mercer Island led 10-9 at the end of the third quarter and pushed that advantage to 13-9 when Daniel Shields scored with 4:50 remaining in regulation. But Baum led Lincoln back in the game, scoring to make it 13-11 with 2:16 remaining and scoring again to make it 13-12 with two minutes to play.
But, in the end, he came up one goal short.
“It was basically Danny for us and Baum for them,” O’Hearn said. “It was really Daniel Shields vs. Peter Baum, not Mercer Island vs. Lincoln.”

As I said in my other response to your post on the Bainbridge game, you're just bitter because you lost. Both teams had equal penalty time. You guys blew a three goal lead in the 1st, and then went down by four in the 4th. MI was better.
