ORE BOYS: OHSLA Semis: No. 10 Lincoln Eliminates Sunset

Senior middie Peter Baum scored four goals and dished an assist to lead No. 10 Lincoln to a 15-7 victory over Sunset in an Oregon High School Lacrosse Association semifinal Wednesday night at Lake Oswego High School.

Freshman attackman Michael Marcott added four goals to help the defending state champion Cardinals (19-4) advance to the state-title game for the second straight season.

Lincoln will next face No. 7 Oregon Episcopal School in a rematch of the 2008 title game. The 2009 Oregon state championship game will be played Saturday night, June 6, at 7:30 p.m., PDT, at Lake Oswego High School.

OES beat Lincoln twice in the regular season.

“We’ve got to make them score in 6 v. 6, settled offense,” Lincoln head coach Will Harris said. “We’ve got to cut down on their unsettled goals.”

On Wednesday, senior attackman Matt Fettig and senior middie Spencer Director each added a pair of goals for Lincoln, which used a seven-goal run to pull away in the fourth quarter.

Senior middie Danny Metcalf, junior middie Aaron Barg and sophomore middie Tony Baum all had a goal and an assist to round out the offense for Lincoln.

Sunset finished the season 17-2 and had its 11-game winning streak snapped.

In a game that was closer than the final score indicates, Lincoln led 8-7 in the second half before scoring the game’s final seven goals.

“My guys just ran hard,” Harris said. “We worked the offense a little bit more, so we were shooting after three passes and that made the difference in their goalie’s save percentage.”
