Senior attackmen Will Boeing and Cody Crews each scored a co-team-high three goals to lead No. 1 Highland Park to a 19-5 victory over St. John’s in a Texas High School Lacrosse League Division I quarterfinal Sunday afternoon at Houston Christian High School.
Senior attackman Parker Brown, junior middie Patrick Campbell and senior defenseman Chris Hipps all added a pair of goals, and 12 players scored in all for the Fighting Scots (14-2).
With the victory, Highland Park advanced to next Saturday’s state semifinals. The Fighting Scots will host the winner of the Austin-Dallas Jesuit quarterfinal.
“We realize it’s going to get tougher and tougher as we move on,” Highland Park head coach Derek Thomson said. “Hopefully, our strong regular-season schedule has prepared us for the games next weekend.”
Senior middie Campbell Powers and senior attackman Dillon Cook each had a goal and an assist for Highland Park, and five others scored once to round out the offense.
St. John’s finished its season 13-7.
It didn’t take long for the Fighting Scots to get going Sunday. Junior attackman Campbell Puckett scored off a feed from Powers just 13 seconds into the game, and Highland Park led the rest of the way.
Highland Park led 6-1 at the end of the first quarter, 14-3 at halftime and 18-3 at the end of the third quarter.
“I’m very pleased with the intensity with which we started the game,” Thomson said.
