TEX BOYS: No. 1 Highland Park Rolls into State-Title Game

May 8th, 2010

Senior attackman Cody Crews and junior attackman Campbell Puckett each registered a co-game-high five points on four goals and one assist to lead No. 1 Highland Park to a 19-4 victory over No. 18 Dallas Jesuit in a Texas High School Lacrosse League Division I semifinal Saturday afternoon at Highland Park.

Senior middies Chase Prospere and Campbell Powers each scored three goals, senior attackman Will Boeing dished three assists and junior middie Patrick Campbell finished with three points on two goals and one assist to help the Fighting Scots (15-2) advance to the state-title game for the third straight season.

Highland Park will be going for its third straight state championship when it hosts the winner of Saturday afternoon’s St. Mark’s-Houston Episcopal semifinal Sunday at 1 p.m., CDT.

“It’s going to be a heck of a challenge,” Highland Park head coach Derek Thomson said. “For our seniors, it’s only fitting that they play for a state championship.”

On Saturday, senior middies Josh Francis and James Mills each finished with a goal and an assist, and junior attackman Campbell Sode scored once to round out the potent Highland Park offense.

Dallas Jesuit finished the season 14-7.

Highland Park rolled from the start. The Fighting Scots led 8-0 at the end of the first quarter, 12-1 at halftime and 18-2 at the end of the third quarter.

“I’m very pleased with how the kids played today,” Thomson said. “I think we’re playing our best ball of the year and being very unselfish with the ball. I thought the key to the game was we won the ground-ball war today.”
