TEX BOYS: THSLL Playoffs: Highland Park Tops Dallas Jesuit

May 12th, 2009

Senior middie Austin Mai scored two goals and dished two assists to lead top-ranked Highland Park to a 10-7 victory over No. 21 Dallas Jesuit in a Texas High School Lacrosse League North District Division I semifinal Monday night.

Junior middie Chase Prospere added three points on two goals and one assist to help the Fighting Scots (15-1) win their 10th straight and advance to the North District championship game.

Highland Park will next face No. 5 St. Mark’s on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m., CDT, at Dallas Episcopal. In the teams’ only regular-season meeting, Highland Park won 5-4 in overtime on March 27.

“We have all the respect in the world for St. Mark’s and their staff,” Highland Park head coach Derek Thomson said. “I’m sure it will be another war, just like every battle with them.”

On Monday, senior attackman Kevin Fritts and senior middie Dillon Zweiffel each finished with a goal and an assist for Highland Park.

Junior defenseman Jackson Coon, junior attackman Cody Crews, senior attackman Blake Lafitte and senior middie Briggs Montgomery all had a goal to round out the offense.

Dallas Jesuit (14-6) lost three of its last four games by a combined five goals. Of the Rangers’s six losses this season, two were by three-goal margins and four were by one-goal margins.

Dallas Jesuit led 2-1 at the end of the first quarter, Highland Park led 4-3 at halftime and the Fighting Scots opened an 8-4 lead by the end of the third quarter.

The Rangers pulled within two in the fourth at 9-7, but Montgomery sealed it when he scored the game’s final goal.

“We were excited to be back playing again,” Thomson said. “I thought it was a very competitive game, and I was very impressed with how hard Jesuit played. I think our kids did a good job matching their intensity.”
