Riverton senior defenseman Nic Chavez has committed to play NCAA Division III lacrosse at Oberlin College.

Chavez said he also considered Utah, Carthage and Southern Virginia before settling on the Ohio-based school.

“I really liked the campus, and as far as academics go, it’s one of the best in the country,” Chavez said. “The campus is nice, and you could tell the coaches really want to win and succeed at the Division III level.”

Chavez said he is psyched to make the transition from the high school to the college game.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Chavez said. “I’m looking forward to seeing how good the competition in college really is.”
