LOU BOYS: LHSLL Playoffs: Jesuit Rolls Past St. Paul's, 15-5
April 24th, 2010
Junior attackman Andrew Silvera registered a game-high seven points on a goal and six assists to lead unbeaten New Orleans Jesuit to a 15-5 victory over St. Paul’s in a Louisiana High School Lacrosse League quarterfinal Saturday afternoon.
Junior attackman Mac Bulloch added six points on five goals and one assist, junior attackman Bryan Kitto scored three goals and senior middie Ian Diament had three points on two goals and one assist to lead the Blue Jays (11-0) to their 11th straight win.
New Orleans Jesuit, which hasn’t lost since last year’s title game, will next face the winner of Monday night’s C.E. Byrd vs. Loyola-Shreveport quarterfinal. If Loyola wins, as expected, it will set up a rematch of last year’s title game.
The match-up will be second game of a semifinal doubleheader at Pan-American Stadium in New Orleans, and it will be played at 2:30 p.m., CDT.
“It’s going to be the toughest game that I’ve coached in the four years since I’ve been here,” New Orleans Jesuit head coach Mike Brantley said. “That will be the game. If we can win Saturday, we can win state.”
Against St. Paul’s, senior middie Micheal Schultis scored twice, and senior middies Kaleb Boudreaux and Michael Catalano each had a goal to round out the offense for the Blue Jays.
St. Paul’s, which was making its first-ever state-playoff appearance, finished the season 5-7.
New Orleans Jesuit led 1-0 at the end of the first quarter, 6-2 at halftime and 12-3 at the end of the third quarter.
“We played really solid ball, really aggressive ball,” Brantley said. “It was a real physical game. We were great on clears and great on ground balls.”
