Los Alamitos senior attackman Michael Marchand has signed an appointment letter to attend and play NCAA Division I lacrosse at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Marchand said he also considered Yale, Fairfield, Lafayette and Whittier before going with the military academy option. Marchand signed his appointment letter Sunday afternoon.

“It’s a good challenge for me,” Marchand said. “It will make me a better person, teach me leadership and discipline and help me later in life. It’s an opportunity that you can’t pass up.”

Marchand said he is going to have to raise his game on and off the field to make a successful transition to the Division I level.

“I think I’m going to have to work a lot harder on my stick skills and get stronger, faster and quicker,” he said.
