ID BOYS: Michael Baker Commits to Robert Morris University

Meridian senior goalie Michael Baker has committed to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at Robert Morris University.
Baker said he also considered Delaware, Virginia Military Institute and Eastern Connecticut before settling on the Pittsburgh-based school.
“At Delaware, I wasn’t guaranteed a spot, and I wasn’t sure about the military aspect of VMI, so I just thought Robert Morris was my best fit,” Baker said. “I liked the campus, I liked the coaches and I felt like I had a better chance of playing there.”
Baker said he is confident he can make the transition to the Division I level.
“It will be a big jump from high school ball in Idaho to DI,” he said. “I go back East for camps every summer, so it won’t be that bad. It definitely won’t be easy, but I don’t think I’ll have a problem.”
Baker is the first player from Meridian High to ever commit to play NCAA Division I lacrosse, and he is believed to be the first boys player from the state to move on to the DI level.
“It’s real exciting,” Baker said. “Hopefully, I’ll represent Idaho well. Most people don’t know there is lacrosse in Idaho. I want to show them there are some decent players.”
