AZ BOYS: Mesa Tops Desert Mountain for First DI Win, 11-6

March 11th, 2010

Junior attackman Jordan Williams registered a game-high five points on a goal and four assists to lead Mesa to an 11-6 victory over Desert Mountain in an Arizona Youth Lacrosse League Division I game Wednesday night.

Sophomore attackman Garrett Ross scored four goals, and junior middie Riley Worthen had four points on a goal and three assists to help the Heat (1-1) score its first-ever victory in Division I. Although Mesa was promoted this season, it had never beaten a Division I team.

Junior attackman Ryan Larsen and junior middie Dillon Wilson each pitched in a goal and an assist, and sophomore long-stick middie David Williams had a goal to round out the offense for Mesa.

In defeat, Tyler Pasteur finished with a team-high three points on a goal and two assists, and Freddie Martori scored twice for Desert Mountain, which fell to 0-2.

Mesa led 3-2 at the end of the first quarter, 6-4 at halftime and 9-5 going into the fourth quarter.

“It’s definitely a good win for us,” Mesa head coach Geoff Larsen said. “the boys played as good as they were expected to, but we’ve got a big, big game against Chaparral on Saturday, so we’re not going to celebrate too long.”
