NorCAL BOYS: Mason Mooney Signs With Dominican (Calif.)

May 5th, 2010

Amador Valley senior defenseman Mason Mooney has signed a national letter of intent to play NCAA Division II lacrosse at Dominican University of California.

Mooney said he also considered Notre Dame de Namur and Arizona before settling on the San Rafael, Calif.-based school that has one of three NCAA-sanctioned men's programs in the Golden State.

“I just felt like it had the best mixture of the sport I wanted to play and the school,” Mooney said. “I liked the campus a lot, and the coach is a great guy.”

Mooney said there are a few things he needs to work on to make a successful transition to the college game, but he is intent on working hard to improve his skills.

“My speed and footwork, I need to do a lot of training for that, and I also need to be able to switch hands faster,” Mooney said. “This summer, I’m going to be doing a lot of ladders, a lot of jumping rope and I’ll be using a heavier stick to make my hands quicker.”
