March 12th, 2010
Junior attackman Mark Lowrimore registered a game-high five points on three goals and two assists to lead Los Alamitos to an 8-6 victory over El Toro in a CIF-Southern Section game Thursday afternoon.
Senior attackman Michael Marchand added four points on two goals and two assists to help the Griffins (2-0) win their second straight to start the season.
Sophomore attackman Steve Brandenburg and senior middie Michael O’Reilly each finished with a goal and an assist, and sophomore middie Sterling Hardy scored once to round out the offense for Los Alamitos.
Defensively, senior goalie Brad Brandenburg saved 13 shots.
El Toro fell to 1-2.
The game was tied, 6-6, midway through the fourth quarter when Marchand scored a transition goal off an outlet pass from Brad Brandenburg to put the Griffins ahead to stay with 6:17 remaining in regulation.
Steve Brandenburg then added an insurance goal with 2:37 remaining to put it away.
“It’s definitely a big win for us,” Los Alamitos head coach Kevin Meyran said. “El Toro’s been around forever, and we’re still establishing our program. It could have gone either way the last five minutes. We got two quick ones and just sealed the deal.”
