LOU BOYS: Loyola-Shreveport Downs Caddo Magnet, 14-9
April 14th, 2010
Freshman attackman Austin Melson, senior attackman J.T. Terzia and junior attackman Austin Mathias all registered a co-team-high five points to lead surging Loyola-Shreveport to a 14-9 victory over Caddo Magnet in a Louisiana High School Lacrosse League Division I game Tuesday night in Shreveport.
Melson, Terzia and Mathias all scored four goals and dished one assist, as the Flyers (9-5) won their third straight. Senior middie Chris Volentine finished with a goal and an assist, and senior middie Cole O’Neal scored once to round out the offense for Loyola.
In the cage, senior goalie Chris Melson saved 14 shots.
Caddo Magnet (2-7) has lost four of its last five. The Mustangs have played one of the toughest schedules in the state, but they are just 1-5 against Louisiana teams. Those five losses have all come against Louisiana’s top four ranked teams.
On Tuesday, Loyola got off to a quick start and led 5-1 at the end of the first quarter, 10-4 at halftime and 12-7 going into the final 12 minutes.
“The team played well,” Loyola assistant coach Kevin Crumrine said. “We’re getting there, but we still have a few things to work on. Hopefully, we’ll peak at the right time.”
