MEN: Lehigh Come Back, Buzzer Beater Stuns Air Force at :00

March 7th, 2010

The Air Force men’s lacrosse team let one slip away Saturday afternoon in the opening game at the Pioneer Face-Off Classic.

After leading nearly the entire game, the Falcons fell to Lehigh, 14-13, after conceding a late four-goal run that was capped as time expired.

Cameron Lao-Gosney scored the game-winning goal with no time left on the clock to complete the rally for Lehigh (2-2), which trailed by as many as four goals and erased a three-goal, fourth-quarter deficit. Lao-Gosney and Dante Fantoni each finished with a co-team-high four points on three goals and one assist.

Other key contributors for Lehigh included Adam Johnson, who scored three goals, Roman Lao-Gosney, who had a goal and two assists, and David DiMaria, who dished three assists.

In defeat, attackman Adam Paranka registered five points on four goals and one assist, attackman Ridge Flick had five points on a goal and four assists and middie Zach Carroll scored three goals for Air Force, which fell to 0-2.

Air Force scored the game’s opening four goals and also led 7-3 after Paranka scored with 9:06 remaining in the second quarter.

In all, Air Force led for 57:24 of the game, but the Falcons could never put Lehigh away. When Tristan Newkirk scored with 9:54 remaining in regulation, it gave Air Force a 13-10 lead.

But Lehigh stormed back, finally tying the game for the first time since the opening minute on a goal by Johnston with 1:37 remaining. That set the stage for Cameron Lao-Gosney, who scored the decider with :00 left on the clock.
