COL GIRLS: Laura Aeschbacher Signs With Duquesne

January 23rd, 2009

Cherry Creek senior middie-defender Laura Aeschbacher has signed a national letter of intent to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at Duquesne University.

Aeschbacher has played low defense in high school, but she is expected to play her natural position of defensive middie when she takes the field for the Pittsburgh-based school, Cherry Creek head coach Cayel Dwyer said.

“She’s got the physical attributes that you can’t coach,” Dwyer said. “She’s a good-size player with speed and is not afraid to be physical. She’s a great position player in terms of always being in the right spot. She doesn’t get beat very often.”

Dwyer said he expects Aeschbacher, who is one of three Cherry Creek players to sign a Division I letter of intent, to do well at the next level.

“She’s got strong stick skills, so for her it’s just going to be a matter of focusing on the speed of the game,” Dwyer said. “If she makes that adjustment, I think she’ll do great.”
