ORE BOYS: Late Rally Lifts Tigard Past Southridge, 11-10

May 5th, 2009

Senior attackman Tanner Dean scored the go-ahead goal with 1:52 remaining in regulation to lead Tigard to an 11-10 victory over Southridge in an Oregon High School Lacrosse Association Metro Conference game Monday night.

Senior middie Sean Stebbins registered a game-high five points on four goals and one assist, junior middie Omar Horani added three goals and Dean and senior middie Jonathan Langvin each scored twice for the Tigers (12-2, 7-2 Metro Conference), who have four of their last five.

In a losing effort, Neil Davis scored a team-high three goals for Southridge (10-6, 5-3), which couldn’t hold on to a three-goal halftime lead.

In a thrilling, back-and-forth game, Tigard led 3-1 at the end of the first quarter before Southridge stormed back to score six in the second quarter and take a 7-4 halftime lead.

Tigard fought back in the third, drawing level at 8-8 going into the final 12 minutes.

In the fourth quarter, Tigard took a 9-8 lead before Southridge answered with back-to-back goals to move ahead 10-9. Adrian Macalalad gave the Skyhawks a late advantage when he scored with 3:52 remaining in regulation.

But Tigard answered.

Stebbins scored his game-high fourth goal with 2:18 to play to make it, 10-10, and Dean’s go-ahead goal took place just 26 seconds later. Tigard won the ensuing face-off and took the clock down to 16 seconds before Southridge finally got the ball back and called timeout.

Southridge had one last gasp, but the Skyhawks lost possession to the side of the Tigard cage, and the clock expired as the teams fought for the ground ball.
