AS: Las Vegas Starz Eliminate LA Mavericks in Quarterfinals

July 17th, 2010

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- Attackman Kieran Eissler registered a game-high six points on four goals and two assists to lead seventh-seeded Las Vegas Starz A to a 12-4 victory over the second-seeded Los Angeles Mavericks in an Adrenaline Shootout quarterfinal Saturday morning at Sonoma State University.

Eissler scored all four of his goals in the first half to help stake Las Vegas (5-1) to a five-goal lead 23 minutes into the game.

With the victory, Las Vegas advanced to face the third-seeded Sonoma Leghorns in the semifinal round at 10:30 a.m., PDT. The winner of that game will be making its first-ever appearance in an Adrenaline tournament final.

“We’ve been practicing since the beginning of the summer,” Eissler said. “We came out here to win.”

Middie Jet Harding scored four goals, middie Jordan Grant had three assists and attackman Blake Krowicki scored a pair of goals to help Las Vegas win its third straight. Middie Justin Anderson and attackman Grant Gravitt scored once.

In defeat, attackman Dakota Randall had two goals, and middie Tom Farrell and attackman Grant Consoletti each scored once for Los Angeles (5-1), which had its five-game winning streak snapped. The Mavericks’ run was the best showing by a team from Los Angeles in an Adrenaline Shootout in more than five years.

Things started well for the Mavericks when Randall scored off a feed from middie Zack Fixen just 20 seconds into the game. But it was all Las Vegas from there.

Las Vegas answered with a five-goal run and took a 5-1 lead after Eissler scored his second of the game off a feed from Grant. After Los Angeles pulled one back, Eissler scored back-to-back goals to put Las Vegas ahead 7-2 with two minutes to play in the first half.

It was 8-4 in the second half, but Las Vegas scored the game’s final four goals in the last 12 minutes.

“I woke up this morning, and I was just feeling it,” Eissler said. “I got a good night’s sleep, and we had to win to advance to the next round.”
