NLL: Langtry, Prout Lead Colorado Mammoth Past Portland

Forwards Bring Langtry and Gavin Prout each finished with a co-game-high six points to lead the Colorado Mammoth to a 12-10 victory over the Portland LumberJax before a crowd of 6,859 Friday night at the Rose Garden.

Langtry scored five goals and dished an assist, and Prout had two goals and four assists, as the Mammoth (1-0) won its season opener. Dan Carey dished three assists, Gary Rosyski had a goal and an assist and Bruce Murray finished with two assists.

Jed Prossner, Nick Carlson, Chris Gill and Nenad Gajic also scored once for Colorado.

In a losing effort, Cory Conway registered six points on three goals and three assists, Peter Morgan added four points on three goals and one assist and Brodie Merrill had three points on a goal and two assists for Portland (0-2), which has lost two straight at home to start the season.

Derek Malawsky and Ryan Powell each had three assists for the LumberJax.

After trailing by four in the second quarter, the LumberJax finished the first half and started the second with a five-goal run to turn a 7-3 deficit into an 8-7 lead. Conway finished the streak with an even-up goal with 12:09 to play in the third quarter.

Colorado answered with three straight goals to push ahead 10-8. Chris Gill scored the go-ahead go to put the Mammoth ahead to stay with 7:47 remaining in the third quarter, and Prossner scored 53 seconds into the fourth to put Colorado up two.

Pete Jacobs scored a man-up goal with 11:50 remaining to bring the LumberJax back within a goal, but goals by Prout and Carlson gave Colorado a 12-9 lead and effectively ended it.
