ORE BOYS: OHSLA Playoffs: Lakeridge Takes Down Tigard, 10-6
May 22nd, 2009
Junior attackman Benton Souers and junior middie Drew Dutton each registered a co-game-high four points to lead Lakeridge to a 10-6 victory over Tigard in an Oregon High School Lacrosse Association first-round playoff game Thursday night.
Souers scored three goals and added an assist, and Dutton had a goal and three assists, as the Pacers (13-8) won for the seventh time in their last eight games.
With the victory, Lakeridge advanced to the second round, where it will face Northwest Conference champion Liberty on Wednesday, May 27, at 7 p.m., PDT. The teams did not play each other during the regular season.
“We don’t know a lot about Liberty,” Lakeridge head coach Curt Sheinin said. “Anytime someone wins a conference, you’ve got to give them some respect.”
On Thursday, sophomore attackman Michael Hoch and sophomore middie David Swanson each added a pair of goals, and junior middie Alex Caffee and senior attackman James Higgins scored once for Lakeridge.
In defeat, Jonathan Langvin and Omar Horani each scored twice for Tigard, which finished the season 14-5.
Lakeridge got up early and maintained the lead throughout. The Pacers led 4-1 at the end of the first quarter, 8-4 at halftime and 9-5 going into the fourth.
“We came out very strong,” Sheinin said. “All in all, I think it’s a step in the right direction. Offensively, we’re moving the ball a lot better but still making some errors and forcing some passes.”
