May 29th, 2010

Senior attackman Benton Souers registered a game-high six points on four goals and two assists to lead Lakeridge to a 13-7 victory over Portland Jesuit in an Oregon High School Lacrosse Association quarterfinal Friday night.

Sophomore attackman Johnny Clayton scored five goals, and senior attackman Brandon Blackmore added five points on two goals and three assists to help the Pacers (17-5) advance to the state semifinals.

Lakeridge, which has won five straight and 11 of its last 12, will next face the winner of Friday night’s Lincoln-West Linn quarterfinal on Wednesday night, June 2.

On Friday, senior middie Drew Dutton finished with four points on a goal and three assists, and junior middie David Swanson had a goal and an assist to round out the offense for Lakeridge, which beat Portland Jesuit for the second time this season.

In the cage, senior goalie Warren Nielsen saved 10 shots.

Portland Jesuit had its five-game winning streak snapped and finished the season 15-7.

Lakeridge led 2-0 at the end of the first quarter, 8-2 at halftime and 11-4 at the end of the third quarter.

“We came out and played solid in the first quarter and absolutely took charge in the second quarter,” Lakeridge head coach Curt Sheinin said. “We definitely had solid play from our attack. Warren had some tremendous saves, and the defense was solid. All in all, I feel very good about this game.”
