ORE BOYS: Lakeridge Beats West Linn for 14th Straight Time

May 7th, 2009

Lakeridge's six-year winning streak over West Linn continued Wednesday night.

Senior middie Nick Hamilton scored a game-high three goals to lead the Pacers to a 6-4 victory over the Lions in an Oregon High School Lacrosse Association Three Rivers League game.

Senior middie Lane Fritz added three points on a goal and two assists to help Lakeridge (11-7, 9-1 Three Rivers League) stay within a half-game of first-place Lake Oswego (11-4, 9-0) in the conference race.

Junior attackman Benton Souers and sophomore attackman Michael Hoch each had a goal to round out the scoring for Lakeridge.

Defensively, junior goalie Warren Nielsen saved 13 shots for the Pacers, who have beaten West Linn 14 straight times. West Linn hasn’t scored a victory in the series since it beat Lakeridge, 8-7, on April 29, 2003.

In a losing effort, Ryan Squires and Michael Fay both finished with two points on a goal and an assist for West Linn (9-6, 7-3), which remains in third place in the league standings.

Lakeridge led 2-1 at the end of the first quarter, 4-1 at halftime and 4-3 going into the final 12 minutes.

Souers scored his only goal with 9:38 remaining in regulation to put Lakeridge up, 5-3, and Hamilton scored his third with 3:48 to play to give the Pacers a three-goal edge.

Squires pulled one back for West Linn with 2:48 remaining, but the Lions couldn’t get any closer.

“I thought we were solid today,” Lakeridge head coach Curt Sheinin said. “First half, we played very well. Our shot selection was very good, and our ball movement was much better than it has been. Third quarter, we came out flat, and they got some momentum going. But in the fourth quarter, we got our focus back.”
