May 29th, 2010

Senior attackman John Salvo registered a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists to lead Lake Oswego to a decisive, 16-4 victory over defending state champion Oregon Episcopal School in an Oregon High School Lacrosse Association quarterfinal Friday night.

Senior attackman Blake Heim added five points on four goals and an assist, and senior middie Reed Oliver finished with five points on three goals and two assists to help the Lakers (15-3) advance to the state semifinals.

Lake Oswego will next face Sunset on Wednesday, June 2, at 6 p.m., PDT., at Tualatin High School. In the teams’ only regular-season meeting, Sunset beat Lake Oswego, 10-6, in both teams’ season opener on March 15.

“They’re obviously one of the top teams in the state of Oregon,” Lake Oswego head coach Peter Lamb said. “Hopefully, we’ve matured as a team and will put together a better showing.”

On Friday, senior attackman Chris Zinsmeister scored three goals, and senior middie Nick Remlinger had two goals to round out the offense for Lake Oswego.

In the cage, junior goalie Nathan Duletzke saved seven shots.

Oregon Episcopal School finished the season 14-8.

Lake Oswego put the Aardvarks away early. The Lakers led 6-0 at the end of the first quarter, 11-0 at halftime and 13-4 at the end of the third quarter.

“The guys want to win the state title,” Lamb said. “Knowing they were going to face the defending state champions was a huge motivator for them. They’re very hungry for it.”
