ORE BOYS: Lake Oswego Rallies to Beat West Linn, 12-11

April 22nd, 2009

Junior attackman Chris Zinsmeister scored his only goal in the final minute of regulation to give Lake Oswego a come-from-behind, 12-11 victory over West Linn in an Oregon High School Lacrosse Association Three Rivers League game Tuesday night.

Zinsmeister’s strike capped a fourth-quarter rally, in which the Lakers (8-4, 6-0 Three Rivers League) erased a two-goal deficit by scoring the game’s final three goals.

A West Linn victory would have created a three-way tie for first in the league, but instead, Lake Oswego remains alone at the top. The Lakers lead second-place Lakeridge (7-7, 5-1) by a game and West Linn (6-5, 4-2) and Riverdale (4-5, 4-2) by two games.

Junior attackman John Salvo scored a team-high four goals, junior attackman Blake Heim added three goals and senior middie Chase Clausen had a goal and three assists for Lake Oswego. Zinsmeister, junior middie Andrew Remlinger and senior middi Brian Greenberg all scored once.

West Linn has lost three of its last four games.

West Linn led 11-9 in the fourth quarter, but Salvo scored his fourth about midway through the final period to bring Lake Oswego within one. Clausen scored the equalizer with less than three minutes remaining before Zinsmeiter put the Lakers on top.

The Lions had one final possession in the last minute, but couldn’t get a shot off and turned it over on a crease violation.

“It’s an absolutely great win,” Lake Oswego head coach Pete Lamb said. “It keeps us in the driver’s seat for the Three Rivers League title, which is where we want to be. I’m really proud of the guys that they stuck with it and pounded it out.”
